Huawei outs MateBook X MateBook E and MateBook D with Windows 10

Its been a very busy day for Huawei today, but aside from the Honor 6A, some Honor tablets, and a new sports band, its also found time to introduce a trio of new Windows 10 devices at a special event in Berlin.

The Huawei MateBook E is the successor to the original MateBook 2-in-1. This comes with a 12-inch 2,160x1,440 IPS touchscreen, 4 or 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and 128, 256, or 512GB of storage (on SSD). To power it you get a choice of 7th Generation Intel Core m3 or i5 processors (both Y-series), along with Intel HD615 graphics. Its kept running by a 4,430 mAh battery which should provide up to 9 hours of battery life.

The MateBook E will be offered in Titanium Grey and Champagne Gold, starting at 999€ and going up to 1,299€. It comes with a revamped folio keyboard and weighs 640g without it and 1.1 kg with it.

The MateBook X is essen tially Huaweis own interpretation of Apples MacBook. The MateBook X bears a striking resemblance to that device, but improves upon it in a lot of aspects. First off, the display. The X has a 13-inch 2,160x1,440 IPS panel, with incredibly thin bezels. In fact, it has an 88% screen-to-body ratio.

Huawei MateBook X

Its fanless and ships with a 41.4 Wh battery thats apparently good for up to 10 hours of use on one charge. You can configure the MateBook X with a 7th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 (both U-series and with Intel HD620 graphics), 4 or 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and a 256 or 512GB SSD.

The X weighs just 1.05kg and is 12.5mm thick. It will start at 1,399€ and go up to 1,699€. Color options are Prestige Gold, Rose Gold, and Space Grey.

Finally, the MateBook D is a more traditional laptop with a 15.6" 1080p screen, i5 or i7 CPU, optional Nvidia graphics, 4/8/16GB of RAM, a 128 or 256GB SSD or a 512GB or 1TB HDD, and a 1.9kg footprint. It will start at 799€ and go up to 999€ depending on which configuration you pick. It will be out in Champagne Gold, Space Grey, and Aurora Blue.

Nougat arrives to LG G5 in Europe and Brazil as well

After South Korea and the United States, the Nougat update has started hitting LG G5 units in other countries as well. A couple of our readers have just tipped us that the device has started receiving the update in Europe and Brazil.

This comes less than a month after LG officially announced the rollout of the G5 Nougat update. Over in the US, all the major carriers - including T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, as well as US Cellular - have already pushed out the update.

HomePod firmware reveals iPhone 8 design infrared facial recognition

With the fingerprint reader booted from the front of the iPhone 8, alternative biometric authentication methods were reportedly considered â€" including 3D facial recognition and iris scanner.

Now we have our first solid bit of evidence â€" HomePod’s firmware shows support for infrared face unlock in the BiometricKit. This is similar to what Lumias and Galaxys use and works in low light.

Also hidden in the firmware is a graphic representation of the device â€" a bezel-less phone with a characteristic cutout on top, which will hold the selfie camera and likely the facial recognition hardware. There’s just enough screen left to the sides of the cutout to show basic status information.

The facial recognition tech is dubbed Pearl ID while the phone is called just D22. Apple will likely keep a fingerprint reader on the iPhone 8, perhaps on the back or on the power button as the facial recognition we’ve seen so far has been slower that the lightning reflexes (0.1s or so) of a fingerprint reader.

16GB iPads are history you now get 32GB of storage for the same price

Apple may not have mentioned iPads at all during its event today, but that doesnt mean nothings new with the companys tablets. After finally killing off all 16GB iPhone versions (except in the iPhone SE for some reason), Apple has decided to do the same for its iPads. So from this point on there isnt a single iPad version you can order with just 16GB of storage.

The base models all get 32GB, and for the exact same price you needed to pay for 16GB before. Additionally, the most expensive iPad Pro models have received some price cuts. Theres now just one iPad mini 2 version for sale, and only two iPad mini 4 options (before there were three).

As you can see, the 64GB iPad mini 4 is gone, while the 128GB iPad Pro is $50 cheaper and the 256GB variation is $100 less than it used to be.
