This post serves as your troubleshooting guide in case your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge wonât charge. Whether you are charging with Samsungâs manufacturer charger or a wireless charging pad, charging issues are among the most common problems any Android smartphone owner may face. It is also among the problems that need to be addressed immediately as your pho ne will only sit atop your table when it totally depletes its battery.
The owner may only have an idea that his/her phone isnât charging when the battery is totally drained and the charging signs wonât show up when the device is plugged in. At this stage, many owners may panic thinking that their expensive piece of technology may already be busted.
But just because your Galaxy S6 Edgeâs battery isnât charging doesnât mean you need to have the battery replaced immediately. Remember that before electric current reaches the battery, it passes through a logic board and gets recognized by the Android system and the firmware itself.

I encountered so many cases already wherein the owner complained about his/her phone not charging but what actually happened was the system just crashed leaving the screen blank and the phone unresponsive. In this case, a soft reset is necessary.

GALAXY S6 EDGE WONâT CHARGE IN CAR
Problem: So, I recently got a new Galaxy S6 Edge phone with Sprint and so far, the phone is doing all of i ts advertised functions and features but charging in my car. All my other phones are charging fine with my car. But the thing Iâm really confused about is that the phone charges fine when I plug the charger into the wall outlet using the original charger that came with the box. So, I think itâs not really a hardware or port issue. Itâs just so annoying that it wonât charge in my car using my car charger. Do you guys know what the problem is and how I can fix it? â"Clarisse
Troubleshooting: Hi Clarisse. Apparently, the phone isnât the problem here because itâs charging with its original charger. On the other hand, your car charger is also functioning with other devices. So, that leaves the USB cable in question. Try using a different cable that you know works and if your phone still refuses to charge using your car charger, then the problem is with the chargerâ"it may not have enough amperage to be able to push electric current into the battery. Samsung devices need chargers with 2 Amps rating.
FAST CHARGING NOT WORKING ON NEW GALAXY S6 EDGE
Problem: Hi Harold. Iâve been reading your posts on Galaxy S6 Edge for a couple of days now because new phoneâs fast charging feature isnât working. I have friends who also have the Edge and I asked them if there is a setting that needs to be turned on or enabled to make fast charging work, they said fast charging capability is native to the phone. So, Iâm confused why my new phone isnât charging as fast as advertised. Itâs about 8 days old. What should I do? â" Ellaine
Troubleshooting: Hi Ellaine. I will assume youâre using the charger that came with the main unit because if not, then thatâs the problem. The original charger is capable of adaptive fast charging while third-party chargers arenât.
Also, if the phone heats up when plugged in, the fast charging feature will not work; the same thing happens if the screen is on. So, verify the phone isnât heating up and turn the screen off while charging. If the fast charging feature still doesnât work, have the phone replaced. After all, itâs still within replacement period. A new phone should work without issues, so itâs better y ou have it replaced as early as now than deal with the problem until your contract expires.
GALAXY S6 EDGE ISNâT CHARGING AT ALL
Problem: My Galaxy S6 Edge is just more than a month old and everything was working well a week ago, now it just wonât charge. When I plug it in, it wonât respond. The usual charging icon wonât display and the LED wonât light up. Whatâs the problem here? Can you help me guys? â" Jason
Troubleshooting: Hello Jason. First of all, make sure youâre using the original charger that came with the device and that the USB cable is properly mounted in the charger and the port on your phone. There is a possibility that itâs an issue with the charging unit itself or just the cable. So, letâs try to rule out possibilities here. First, using the original USB cable, try to connect your phone to you r computer and see if it gets detected. If not, then itâs probably a cable problem, so you know what to do next in this case.
However, if the phone gets detected by your computer, try to set your focus on the charger itself. If you have other phones, try charging them using your S6 Edgeâs charger. If they, too, wonât charge, then buy a new charger.
If youâve successfully ruled out that itâs neither the charger nor the cable thatâs having a problem, then the issue is with your phone. You will now have to rule out the possibility that itâs just a firmware issue and the first thing to do is boot your Galaxy S6 Edge in safe mode:
- Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- When âSamsung Galaxy S6 Edgeâ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
- Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
- When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.
When in safe mode, try charging your phone and if it failed again, backup all your data and perform full hard reset. After all, the first thing a technician would do is reset the phone so itâs better you do it before he does. If the problem is fixed with you doing it, then you just saved yourself from all the hassle of going to a tech shop, explaining what the problem is and answering questi ons.
Full Hard Reset
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays âPower on logoâ, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, âwipe data/factory resetâ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Vol Down button again until the option âYes â" delete all user dataâ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight âRe boot system nowâ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
GALAXY S6 EDGE WONâT CHARGE AFTER AN UPDATE
Problem: Hi guys! There was an update recently which I downloaded to my S6 Edge. After the installation, my phone seemed to have used up all its battery leaving it with just 7%. So, I charged my phone and to my surprise, it didnât respond at all. I rebooted it several times already but it still wonât charge. Now, Iâm on 2% and a few minutes from now, the phone will shut down but I still havenât managed to get it to charge. Why is this happening? Help me. â" Lorie
Troubleshooting: Hello Lorie. If the problem occurred after an update, then it must be just a glitch. More often than not, the new firmware will corrupt some caches and data leaving some inconsistencies in the system itself. In this case, it seems li ke the charging function is the one thatâs affected.
The first thing I suggest you do is soft reset: just press and hold the Power and Volume Down keys for 10 seconds until the phone powers down. While turned off, plug the phone to charge. It is almost certain the problem like this is fixed at this point. Otherwise, I recommend you wipe the cache partition if thereâs enough battery left, if not, then you need help from a tech.
Wipe Cache Partition
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight âwipe cache partition.â
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, âReboot system nowâ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
